Climate-friendly Concert

Massive Attack, who will be meeting their fans in Istanbul on July 23, are set to organize a climate-friendly concert in their hometown of Bristol next month. This event aims to serve as a significant example of decarbonizing the music industry.

The newly opened Bristol Beacon aspires to become the UK’s first net-zero concert hall by 2030.

ACT 1.5, the band’s first concert in the UK in five years, will take place on August 25 at Clifton Downs in Bristol. The event is described as a large-scale climate action accelerator and is touted as the lowest carbon show of this scale ever staged.

Among the primary objectives of the initiative are reducing emissions from buildings and land and rail transportation to zero by 2035, and capping total aviation emissions at no more than 80% of 2019 levels.

In this context, the band members and technical crew will travel by train to every possible destination.

The event will be powered entirely by renewable energy, and no meat-based foods will be sold.

Additionally, all waste will be recycled. Each train ticket purchased by the audience will contribute to the planting of 19,150 native oak trees on former agricultural land near Bristol.

Bristol, the birthplace of Massive Attack, is renowned as a global leader in climate action. This vibrant port city, home to 500,000 residents, developed a pioneering climate strategy back in 2004. In recognition of its efforts, Bristol was named the European Green Capital in 2015, underscoring its commitment to sustainability and environmental innovation. Through events like this, Bristol continues to set an inspiring example for cities worldwide in the fight against climate change.
