Nihilism

1- How it was founded, started and develop?

Many people think that nihilism was born with Nietzsche and his famous belief that “god is dead”, but in reality it starts with Descartes: he was the first one to affirm that god was only a figure that held the truth, but the certain and the science could be found in rationality and the power of men. So nihilism starts with the atheism we find in Descartes.

2- What do you think relationship btw nihilism and minimalism? There is any? How is relationship btw atheism and nihilism?

As I said I think that nihilism and atheism are very much linked. God is the figure that everyone has always had in life that brings joy and safety. If we destroy god we destroy everything that that figure means, so a certain type of way of living , morals , emotions etc and we loose faith in society and culture. As for the minimalism, I think that the refusal of reality may lead someone to want to own less and live with few things since they believe that nothing have meaning, but I think it’s just a coincidence and that it isn’t strictly linked.

3- How it has changed from 1950s and today? Is it more or less nowadays?

I think that the change from the 50s is consistent . People especially the younger ones , are losing faith in our world especially because of the political and economical issues and situation we are living in. In the 50s, after the war, we lived a sin of rise which now disappeared and that’s why it leads to nihilism.

4- What's the advantages and disadvantages? Which one is more for you?

I think that a monitored nihilism could make us not loose completely faith in values morals etc, but maybe makes us realise in what we have to believe, what is really worth our value and time. On the other hand nihilism can isolate people in their darkness and sadness, and it also affects society because if no one believes in it, they don’t invest in it and they don’t get profit from it, so it’s a vicious cycle.

5- Can we say nihilism persons are insensitive and close to environment so in other word they are cold and selfish? Do you think they live so much pain inside or they are more comfortable than average person?

I don’t think nihilist people are insensitive, I think they are extremely sensitive to suffer because of the world fading into nothing. Not believing in anything has consequences that weight on people’s heart, and only who is sensitive can feel it. I think nihilism people are isolated and not so comfortable in our society like the average people.

6- What do you think about nihilism? Do you support it or no? Agree or no? In which sense?

I would say I both agree and disagree with nihilism. I would call my nihilism active, like Nietzsche’s one. Because even if sometimes I feel down for not believing strongly in things that once were sure and certain, I’d like to replace those values and believes with new one to create a new society . But maybe I’m too optimistic you could say!

7- What's the aim and motivation in general for nihilism person or this philosophy?

I think that the point of this philosophy is exactly that there’s no aim, just feeling lost and sad for the impossibility to live knowing that nothing basically makes sense.

Suggested book:
Albert Camus - The Stranger

What is Camus message in the stranger?

Camus's message in The Stranger is that life is absurd. He communicates this messagethrough the protagonist, Meursault, who lives his life according to the belief that his world operates without order, reason, or meaning.

What is the summary of the stranger?

A shipping clerk living in French Algiers in the 1940s, Meursault is a young, detached but ordinary man. The novel begins with Meursault receiving a telegram informing him of his mother's death. He attends the funeral, but surprises other attendees with his unusual calm and (once again) detachment.
